The Internet provides a wealth of information. But sometimes finding the information that you need is like finding a needle in a haystack. Search Engines
A 'search engine' is a computer program that indexes internet web-pages. Some search engines hold an index of several million web-pages, so at times you may find too much information on a certain topic. Learning how to make concise searches using search engines takes time and practice - but it is a skill well worth learning.
There are many good search engines on the 'net. Some specialise in Australian content, others have a broader focus. These are just a few of the search engines available.
- Google provides a massive index, with a refreshingly simple interface.
- ANZWERS is an Australian based search engine, specialising in Australian and New Zealand material. However, it is also a good general purpose search engine.
- Yahooligans is a kid-friendly version of the well-known Yahoo interface.
- DogPile is fast becoming many peoples favourite search engine, even if it is a touch on the wacky side.
